Merry Christmas

Mom and Colin are visiting Daron and Feifei this weekend.  Mom sent me a few photos and I thought I would share them with you....

This one came crooked and I am not sure how to fix it!
Thanks again for all your support.  As you can see there are quite a few cards captured in these photos.  There are more but I couldn't get the other photo off of my phone.  Victor asked Daron if he needed more to read.  Daron just chuckled and smiled. :)

Merry Christmas to all!
Daron, if you are reading know you are well loved!

Thanks

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who has sent cards and mail to Daron.  My mom and brother Colin will be out in San Francisco for Christmas so I will ask them to take a photo of the room.  If you look at the long list of books sent it is clear that Daron will not be bored anytime soon. :)

He is still doing okay.  The effects of the chemo have started to kick in so he isn't feeling great but that is too be expected.  It is terrible to think about him feeling miserable though.  Thank you for your support and prayers!

What not to send/ Movie Update

I thought I should mention briefly that most patients undergoing intense chemotherapy can NOT receive fresh flowers or fresh fruits and vegetables.

Daron did sign up for Netflix so I think he will have access to most shows and lots of movies.  If you have favorite shows you think he should watch let me know.  He has spent very little time watching TV during the first 30 years (almost) of his life so most likely he hasn't seen it.  I already mentioned my all time favorite show Modern Family -- he thought it was a cartoon! Ha!

Thank you for all the interest in supporting Daron.  Lots and lots of people have mentioned sending cards!  Thanks!

Become a Donor

We hope Daron never needs a bone marrow transplant, but there are lots of people around the world who are waiting for a match.  Thanks to encouragement from my friend Leslie, I am now a registered donor (waiting for my swabs at least).

Let's see how many other new donor's we can add to the registry!  I am going to post a poll - if you register mention it there!  Maybe one of us can save a life!

Looking for ipad advice!

Those of you who have (and love) an ipad I am hoping you will list your favorite apps!  Daron is the first in our family to own one so we can't help him much with fun app ideas!  List your favorites in the comments please!  Thanks Julie for the good idea!

How To Kill Time At the Hospital

As I mentioned previously, we believe Daron will be hospitalized most of the following year.  I asked him if there was anything we could send him and he suggested books and movies.

He does have an ipad (thanks Mom and Dad) and access to a computer.  Some people have asked me how what they could send Daron.

I am thinking....

1- Books -- if you have books at home you've read already maybe you could send them on to Daron.  He hasn't had a lot of time to read during the past 6 years so most likely he hasn't read the ones you have!

2- Movies/DVD's -- again, maybe old ones from your collection (I'm cheap!)

3- Amazon.com gift cards -- you can get everything from amazon!

4- Letters and cards!! (See previous post!) I hope to arrange a card drive every 6 to 8 weeks until he is discharged for good!

5- Most important though is your love, prayers, and support!

If you send him books or movies please leave the titles in the comments!  I will make a list on the side of the blog so he doesn't end up with 10 copies of the same book/movie.

Thank you!  We are so lucky to be surrounded by such wonderful friends and family.

Privacy

Daron was very quiet about the work up/diagnostic process.  He initially made it clear that he didn't want many people knowing about this.  Now that the diagnosis is clear he realizes than lots of people are going to know.

He told me to feel free to share this info as we feel necessary although he is NOT going to announce this on facebook and would prefer we not to draw public attention to it on his facebook wall.

He said he is thankful for the support he has had so far and that friends and family are more than welcome to reach out to him via mail, e-mail, text, etc.  He won't be offended by anyone offering him support!

Letter/Card Drive

Being hospitalized over Christmas is going to be very difficult for Daron.  All 4 of us (kids) were supposed to be home for New Years so we will be missing him extra that week.   Daron's address is on the sidebar.

If you could please send Daron a cheery card sometime during the next 2 weeks that would be wonderful.  Let's fill his walls up completely with cards!  If you have kids I am sure he would enjoy getting drawings from them as well.

I am NOT telling Daron we are going to overload his room with cards!  I will ask him to take a photo of them all though if he/FeiFei put them on display.

Background Info

I intend to use this blog as a way to coordinate support for Daron.  He is planning on setting up a format to communicate how he is doing separately but hasn't had a chance to do that yet.

Daron had not been feeling well for a couple of months.  He was diagnosed with leukemia on 12/5/11.  He was admitted on 12/6/11 and  started chemo on 12/8/11.  So far he is feeling nauseous and has little to no appetite but no vomiting.

He seems to be in better spirits than the rest of the family at this point but admits he is really nervous about how he will whether the chemo.  We anticipate this journey will long (2 to 3 years) and very, very difficult for Daron.

We still have a lot to figure out but we do know he will spend a significant portion of the next year hospitalized.  I am hoping we can make the next year of his life a little less awful by showing him support from afar.   Thanks for joining me/us in loving Daron!
